SELF SEAL® TYPE SSC INTUMESCENT COLLARS

Intumescent Silicone Firestop Collar That Protects Your Wall and Floor Openings “Tested at positive pressure to simulate the pressure differentials that can occur in a fire situation”

PRODUCT:
SELF SEAL® TYPE-SSC is a pre-fabricated collar designed to seal combustible pipe penetrations in fire-rated walls and floors. The galvanized metal collar houses a moulded silicone rubber intumescent ring. The silicone composition exhibits excellent performance stability and when exposed to temperatures in excess of 300OF (150OC) it will begin to expand. As the pipe softens and collapses under fire conditions, the silicone composition will rapidly intumesce to fill the void with a patented char composite that contains expanded graphite. The collar is pre-fabricated to fit 1-1/2” (38 mm), 2” (51 mm) and 3” (76 mm), 4” (102 mm) and 6” (152 mm) trade sized pipes. SELF SEAL® TYPE-SSC can be used to firestop solid or cellular core Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), solid or cellular core Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC), and Flame Retardant Polypropylene (FRPP) closed or vented pipe penetrations. Solid core PVC vented and CPVC sprinkler pipe penetrations firestopped with SELF SEAL® TYPE-SSC meet the Canadian building code test requirement for a pressure differential of 50 Pa between the exposed and unexposed sides of concrete and drywall fire separations. SELF SEAL® TYPE-SSC is also in compliance with the 3rd edition of ANSI / UL1479 “Fire Tests of Through-Penetration Firestops”, to be effective May 23, 2006, for the following environmental exposure tests: Accelerated Aging; High Humidity; Industrial Atmosphere (SO2 and CO2) and Combination Wet, Freeze and Dry Cycling.

FEATURES AND TYPICAL USES:
SELF SEAL® TYPE-SSC seals combustible pipe penetrations through fire and smoke rated wall and floor separations. See MECHANICAL and ELECTRICAL APPLICATION CHARTS for details.

INSTALLATION:
• All substrates must be clean and sound; free of oil, frost, grease, dust, and other foreign materials.
• Smoke seal the annular space between the pipe and the periphery of the opening with a 1/4” (6.4 mm) depth of SELF SEAL® GG-200 or GG-266 flush with the top surface of the concrete slab or both surfaces of the wall.
• Select the collar to fit the diameter of the pipe to be firestopped. Flex the collar and silicone rubber ring, place around the pipe and slide the collar until the anchor tabs are firmly against the underside of the floor or the surface of the wall. Secure the collar by inserting the collar tab into the adjacent slot and then bend it back (the 6” (152 mm) collar is latched with a stainless steel hose clamp). Mark the holes in the anchor tabs and pre-drill to accommodate 1/4” (6.4 mm) x 1-1/4” (32 mm) Tapcon type concrete anchors to be used in conjunction with 1-1/4” (32 mm) diameter fender washers or to accommodate 3/16” (4.7 mm) x 3” (76 mm) toggle bolts in drywall applications. SELF SEAL® TYPE-SSC is only recommended for use in firestop systems that are listed in either the UL Fire Resistance Directory Vol. 2, the UL Directory of Products Certified for Canada or the ULC List of Equipment and Materials - Firestop Systems and Components.

• Pre-fabricated collars to fit 1-1/2” (38 mm), 2” (51 mm), 3” (76 mm) and 4” (102 mm) trade sized pipes. Ten collars per box. The 6” (152 mm) collar is a special order item.
